ProteinMenuScanner helps you compare visible restaurant menu choices using AI-generated protein estimates. This Privacy Policy explains what data we process, why we process it, and what choices you have.
1. Who We Are
ProteinMenuScanner is provided by:

2. Data We Process
When you use ProteinMenuScanner, we may process the following data:
- Up to three images you submit for a menu scan, including restaurant menus, menu boards, takeout menus, or menu screenshots.
- AI-generated scan results, including ranked menu choices, estimated protein ranges, and explanations.
- Anonymous user identifiers created by the app. ProteinMenuScanner does not require you to create an account with your name, email address, or password.
- Authentication tokens used to recognize the anonymous app user. These tokens are stored by the backend in hashed form.
- A random app-install identifier stored on your device. The backend stores only a hashed version of this identifier.
- Credit and usage data, such as free monthly uses, rewarded-ad credits, credit balances, and credit transactions.
- Rewarded-ad data, such as reward session IDs, reward event IDs, reward status, granted credits, ad unit IDs, ad platform, and related AdMob server-side verification metadata.
- Ad revenue event data, if available from the mobile ad SDK, such as value in micros, currency, precision, ad format, placement, platform, ad unit ID, and the related rewarded-ad session.
- Technical job data needed to operate the backend, such as request IDs, app ID, job type, processing status, timestamps, attempt count, credit usage, error codes, and processing results.
- Input metadata, such as image MIME type, approximate image size, base64 length, image count, and whether an image was included. The backend is designed not to log or retain the raw base64 image content after processing is complete.
- AI provider usage data, such as provider name, model, token counts, response ID, estimated API cost, and pricing configuration used for cost calculation. This usage data does not include the submitted images.
- Backend analytics data, such as counts of users, scans started, scans completed, scans rejected, scans failed, rewarded ads completed, estimated API cost, and estimated ad revenue.
- App-user analytics records, such as first seen and last seen timestamps for the anonymous app user.
- Technical request data needed to operate and secure the service, such as request IDs, timestamps, request paths, status codes, processing times, and error types.
- Network information such as IP address may be processed by hosting providers, security tools, and server infrastructure to deliver and protect the service.
- Device and advertising identifiers may be processed by Google Mobile Ads and related SDKs when rewarded ads are used.
ProteinMenuScanner does not intentionally collect your name, email address, contacts, precise location, payment card information, health records, or financial information.
3. How We Use Data
We use the data described above to:
- Process submitted menu images and provide ranked menu choices with estimated protein ranges.
- Send submitted images to the backend and to the configured AI provider for processing after you give in-app processing consent.
- Save local and backend-linked history so you can view previous scans.
- Operate free monthly usage, credits, rewarded ads, and anti-abuse protections.
- Verify rewarded-ad completion and grant credits.
- Monitor app reliability, performance, cost, and basic usage.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate misuse, fraud, security issues, and unsupported content.
- Respond to support, privacy, and deletion requests.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. AI Provider Processing
ProteinMenuScanner uses OpenAI as a third-party AI provider. When you submit menu images, the app first shows an in-app processing consent dialog explaining what data is sent, which provider receives it, and how it is used.
If you continue, the submitted images and technical prompt data are sent to our backend and then to OpenAI so ranked menu choices and estimated protein ranges can be generated. OpenAI may process this data according to its own terms and policies. We do not sell submitted images.
5. Images and Results
Submitted images are processed to provide the requested menu comparison. The backend is designed not to retain raw base64 image content after processing is complete, but technical metadata, generated results, request records, usage records, and safety or error metadata may be stored for service operation, analytics, billing, debugging, abuse prevention, and legal compliance.
The app may store local preview images and generated results on your device so your history remains available. You can delete local history in the app. Backend deletion options may also be available in settings.
Do not submit menus or screenshots that contain personal, confidential, or payment information that is not needed for the scan.
6. Rewarded Ads and Third-Party SDKs
ProteinMenuScanner uses Google Mobile Ads for rewarded ads. When rewarded ads are shown, Google and its partners may process device identifiers, advertising identifiers, ad interaction data, diagnostic data, and related information for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and tracking where applicable.
Rewarded ads are optional in the sense that they are only used when you choose to unlock additional menu scans after free uses are exhausted. If you do not want ad SDK processing, do not watch rewarded ads.
7. Food, Nutrition, Allergy, and Health Information
ProteinMenuScanner estimates likely protein ranges from visible menu text and general food context. It does not ask you to provide medical conditions, health history, body data, biometric data, or other health records.
The app output is not medical advice, nutrition counseling, allergy advice, diagnosis, treatment, food-safety advice, or a personalized diet plan. Estimates may be inaccurate because actual recipes, portions, substitutions, and preparation methods may not be visible. Always verify ingredients, allergens, portions, and nutrition information directly with the restaurant. If you have allergies, medical conditions, dietary restrictions, pregnancy-related needs, or other health concerns, consult the restaurant and a qualified professional as appropriate.
8. Legal Bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or a similar jurisdiction, our legal bases may include:
- Contract necessity, to provide the app features you request.
- Consent, for AI processing consent and any consent-based ad or privacy choices.
- Legitimate interests, to secure, maintain, debug, improve, and understand the service.
- Legal obligation, where we must retain or disclose information to comply with applicable law.
9. Data Sharing
We may share data with:
- OpenAI, for AI processing of submitted menu images.
- Google Mobile Ads and related advertising partners, for rewarded ads and ad measurement.
- Hosting, database, analytics, monitoring, and infrastructure providers that help us operate the service.
- Legal, safety, or law-enforcement recipients when required by law or necessary to protect rights, users, or the service.
We do not sell your submitted images.
10. Data Retention
We keep data only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including service operation, history, credit accounting, analytics, fraud prevention, debugging, legal compliance, and dispute handling.
Local history stored on your device remains until you delete it, uninstall the app, or clear app data. Backend records may remain for a reasonable period after local deletion where needed for security, billing, analytics, legal compliance, or service integrity.
11. Deletion and Privacy Requests
You may delete saved scans in the app where available. You may also contact us at sbytex@myyahoo.com to request access, correction, deletion, or other privacy rights available under applicable law.
To help us identify the relevant anonymous app data, include the app name and any information shown in the app settings that is intended for support or deletion requests. Do not send sensitive personal information unless necessary.
12. International Processing
Your data may be processed in countries other than the country where you live, including the United States and countries where our providers operate. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data. No internet or mobile service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
14. Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will apply when made available through the app, store listing, or website.
